Seth Godin's post reminded me of the 15 minutes I wasted last week on the Volvo website. I had seen an ad on television to go to Volvo's website and tell your story of who deserves one of their very nice and very safe cars.
Okay, I think my wife deserves one. So, I would write my little story of the reasons why she deserves one (which are too numerous to list here!). I had no delusions of winning one.
Good thing I didn't. It turns out that you can't really win one. They just want to hear about who you think deserves one and then you can send them a e-card. How stupid is that?
"Hey, honey, you really deserve a Volvo. Maybe if I check-out early you can use the insurance money and buy one. Until then, you're stuck with what you've got."
Funny (in a I-just-hate-that-when-it-happens-to-me sort of way)!

That is a stupid campaign. They had one a few years ago, where the people could win a volvo for life. I don't know what happened to that but this is aweful. It's just like email offers for free 'gift'and then you have to pay for shipping. If I have to pay for shipping, then it's not free is it?

I am so glad I read this first. I was going to go online for the same reason. I figured the chances of "winning" wouldn't be great but why not enter anyway? Right?? Stuff like this irritates me, too. I rarely go online for stuff like this, but really wanted to enter my mom. Her last Volvo went over 300K miles before it died. Good cars, dumb advertising.
