I personally think there are too few winners in the Books category of the Communication Arts 2008 Design Annual. But these four are deserved winners:
• Wet Apples, White Blood (Cover: David Drummond)
• All the Sad Young Literary Men (Cover: Paul Buckley/Jason Kernevich/Dustin Summers)
• The Fortune Cookie Chronicles (Cover: Anne Twomey)
• Sedaris (Cover: David Drummond)
... the story behind this quote: "Fans wanted pics with me, wanted to touch me, we posed with our hands cupped to copy the cover," she said. "I feel like I'm part of a movement somehow." The end is near.
... where to track how much time you spend on facebook, blowing your nose, or reading stories about hand models
Several years ago I did an interview on this site with Greg Pope, creative director at B&H Publishing Group in Nashville, about his music career. Greg has just released a great new solo album: Pop Monster. Read more about the project (as well as listen to the tunes) on Greg's Pope Monster blog.
BTW, I really dig the cover art, too.
I was asked (as I am sure many book designers were) to submit up to five samples for an exhibition in Paris entitled "We Love Books", put together by Atelier Michel Bouvet. It will feature the work of over 80 designers from over 27 countries. It is an honor to be featured in a such a show.
I submitted five books including Clark Gable, Everyday Deserves a Chance, and Romey's Place.
Books Covered is now a featured listing on Alltop:Design,

Yours truly is going to begin writing for design:related. My first post should be up next week. It will be a little familiar to readers of this blog. It is an updated and expanded version of the interview I did with Peter Mendelsund last year. Peter is a senior designer at Knopf as well as Art Director for Vertical Press, an edgy independent Japanese-American publisher. I want to thank Karen Horton (book designer and co-founder of d:r) for this new opportunity. It should be fun.
